The on going war over paper and plastic has met its match.  Paper and plastic bags stand at a tie, being both extremely inefficient.  It takes more energy to produce paper bags than plastic but making paper bags requires a lot of water and obviously trees.  Plastic bags are made from 12 million barrels of oil that could potentially make its way into large bodies of water and harm marine life.  So what’s the answer to our problem? 3. Buy products that are manufactured and packed locally.  Many transported items average 1,500 miles from the field to the supermarket.
4. Alternatives to reduce carbon footprint would be riding a bicycle, scooter, or walking.  You could also get a job closer to home. Also, choosing a more efficient car would aid our environment.  Even SUVs have hybrids.

Just remember, adjusting and adapting to a different, more eco-friendly lifestyle doesn’t have to compromise comfortability.  It does take effort but it’s well worth it and it goes a long way to better the future of our children.
